Instead, it strikes the perfect balance between richness and elegance. Their modern version of Cali Chard is bold and engaging, offering an unmistakable varietal signature that's perfect for pairing with your favourite home-cooked meals.

Deep purple in colour with ripe intense berry fruit and meaty characters, supported by intense sweet oak and complex yeast notes. A brooding dense palate, well-structured with ripe dark fruits and silky ripe tannins. Plush & lingering.

Dense in colour with loads of ripe red fruits, black pepper, and spicy oak aromatics. The palate is loaded with rich red plum and wild berry fruits, and shows well balanced tannin and a silky smooth yet savoury mouth feel.

Deep purple and violet in glass, the nose presents well with darker florals, a touch of cassis, pepper spice and with a lovely dark spiced plum floating in the background. To taste the palate is supple and elegantly managed with gentle tannin and a long savoury spice finish with a hint of spice.

Ruby-red coloured wine, with pleasant fruity aromas and delicate sweet notes, well balanced, soft and round in the mouth. Perfect with savoury pasta, red meat and fresh cheeses.

Deep ruby-red coloured wine, of excellent structure, harmonious and slightly tannic. Excellent with red meat dishes, seasoned cheeses and game.

Intense ruby red colour, a full-bodied wine with intense fruity perfumes, with soft, supple tannins and a long finish. Excellent with Mediterranean pasta and grilled red meat.

Dark boysenberry fruits play off against floral prairies meeting the edge of the forest floor bringing a touch of wild herbs and peachy musk undertones. Balanced soft acid is punctuated by dusty sandalwood notes from the delicate hand of oak and finished with bites of crusty blueberry pie. A fantastic wine to drink when young, however, careful cellaring of 5-10 years will be rewarded.

An abundance of flavoursome fruit. Shiraz is our hero, selected for its fine savoury tannins, dark fruit and generosity across the mid-palate. Grenache tannins, exotic red fruits and lively acid provide ample tension. Mataro plays the anchor role, binding the palate into a harmonious balance with dusty, textural, mouth filling tannins. The tannins combined feel massaged and ground, quietly confident. The acidity is fresh and enticing. The palate is plush, complete. A generous, balanced all-rounder. Certainly not over extracted or pumped up. All together an enticing, complex, evolving wine, with a creamy texture, lively freshness and a willingness to delight from the first sip. Bin 2 was first released in 1960, yet was discontinued in Australia in the 1970s at the height of the white wine boom. The original Bin 2 was an 'Australian Burgundy' style (despite its Rhône varieties) - typically a soft, medium-bodied wine based on Shiraz. The Bin 2 blend of Shiraz and Mataro is still relatively uncommon in Australian table wines. Also known as Monastrell or Mourvèdre, Mataro was introduced to Australia in the 1830s. Sometimes used in fortified wine production, this grape is widely planted in the Barossa Valley. It is greatly valued by winemakers for its blending attributes, adding complexity and palate grip.

Bin 28 offers a showcase of warm climate Australian Shiraz - ripe, robust and generously flavoured. First made in 1959, Bin 28 was originally named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented. As advertised! Full-bodied, rich and generous. Lovely mocha, chocolate, espresso flavours. The confectioner provides black jellybean, licorice, chocolate truffles and rum and raisin. Very generous fruits fill an ample, plush mid-palate. A trip to the German cake shop: black forest cake, strudel, crème anglaise. Toasted fennel seeds and fresh tarragon. The acidity is juicy and energetic. Bold, attentive, structural graphite-like tannins hold the package together. The oak is completely absorbed, allowing the fruit to shine. The finish is long and fine, with a taught shale, mineral-like impression that lingers forever.
